We're gonna slide a quick switch-hit in here before Christmas and offer one more Holiday Release in a VERY small quantity. This coffee is a direct trade coffee, air-freighted in to my supplier. The Don Julian farm is incredibly unique; Annie Burneskis, the owner, believes in leaving the farm in as natural a state a possible, and so the coffee grows in a protected rainforest area, nearly indistinguishable from the surrounding forest. That, the volcanic soil, and the monster bean Pacamara type are responsible for this coffees unique, expressive flavor profile, which has scored highly in the Cup of Excellence competition, and last year sold for $94.55/lb (green!) at auction. I should charge a lot more for this, but sometimes I just want to put a really special coffee out there, cost be damned.
Date-like sweetness and 55% dark chocolate abound, making a thick syrupy cup, with wine-like notes, ripe guava and pineapple, and really interesting umami/savory notes reminiscent of roasted cashew and something like spicy sandalwood. Complex, well-rounded, and intensely exotic, exciting in any brew method!
Sold in 1lb increments.
